This French cut crystal bowl, dating to around 1900, is mounted with gilt-brass at the rim and foot. The circular body features vertical fluting and a wheel-cut star to the base, while the mounts are finely chased with floral garlands at the rim and a laurel band at the base. The gilding shows a gentle patina with a small loss to one garland, and the crystal remains clear and intact. Overall, the piece is in very good condition and finely detailed, carrying a romantic, nostalgic charm.
Made in the Louis XVI Revival style popular at the turn of the twentieth century, this type of bowl was intended as a refined table centerpiece or for serving fruit salad. Such works often combined the talents of crystal cutters and metalworkers to create decorative yet functional pieces that brought elegance to the dining room. Today it remains versatile, equally at home on a sideboard or dinner table, where the interplay of crystal and gilded garlands lends a graceful, refined accent.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
