A French mid-century forged iron floor lamp by Jean Touret, circa 1960. Hand-wrought in iron, the slender standard rises gracefully from a tripod base with subtly arched legs, culminating in a four-arm corona fitted with new shades in a soft cream parchment tone. A stylized rooster crowns the composition in the manner of a weathervane, further emphasized by French cardinal direction letters adorning each light arm (Nord, Sud, Est, Ouest).
Jean Touret (French, 1916-2004) led the Atelier de Marolles, a collective celebrated for marrying rural craftsmanship with restrained modern lines. His lighting designs in iron and oak distilled folk emblems into graphic silhouettes, here the Gallic rooster long associated with French villages and church spires. The hammered texture, and simple, balanced proportions reflect traditional blacksmithing techniques that endured in rural workshops well into the twentieth century, lending his work its quietly rustic yet distinctly modern presence.
With its sculptural silhouette and poetic symbolism, this floor lamp brings both character and quiet strength to an interior. Placed in a living room beside a deep sofa, in a library corner with oak shelving, or even in an entry hall, it creates a warm and inviting focal point. The rooster finial adds a subtle note of French country charm, while the clean, balanced lines ensure it sits comfortably within both rustic and contemporary settings. It lends a space a sense of heritage and craftsmanship, grounding modern interiors with authenticity.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
