This French oval wall mirror from the late 19th century features a layered wooden frame with an outer gently scalloped border, a middle section painted in faux wood grain that reads in warm chestnut and umber tones, and an inner beaded band with traces of dark and gilt paint. The original beveled plate shows appealing signs of age, with scattered foxing and a light surface haze, yet remains serviceable. Subtle wear to the painted finish adds to its antique allure.
Mirrors of this type were popular in France during the later 1800s, when decorators embraced grained finishes to emulate costly timbers such as walnut and mahogany. The undulating outline reflects the Rococo Revival taste of the Napoleon III era, while the beveled glass signals a higher-quality piece, once destined for hallways, bedrooms, or parlors.
Easy in scale, it works beautifully in a powder room or bathroom for those who appreciate a touch of foxing, while also suiting an entry above a console, a dressing area layered with textiles, or a sitting room where its warm tones can bridge painted paneling and rich wood furniture.

Condition and patina consistent with age.
Note: Mirrors have been photographed facing fabric, a technique that reveals any age spots in the glass. In some cases, this may create the appearance of an empty frame, but each mirror is complete except where explicitly stated.
