A petite French Transition breakfront commode, circa 1800, topped with a shaped grey marble slab. The two-drawer façade is richly decorated with refined marquetry, centered by an oval medallion of ribbon-tied flowers in contrasting tones. The floral motif is set within carefully arranged veneers whose mirrored grain creates a lively interplay of warm rosewood and lighter fruitwood, further framed by corner inlays that emphasize symmetry and depth. Slender cabriole legs terminate in brass sabots, while finely cast gilt-bronze mounts accent the apron and stiles. Each drawer is fitted with decorative brass ring pulls. Minor veneer losses and a few old restorations are visible, consistent with age. The marble remains in good order, the lower drawer retains a functioning lock and key, while the upper drawer was designed without a lock. The drawers are neatly lined with decorative fabric, adding a refined and charming finishing touch.
Nicely proportioned for an entry, bedroom, or sitting room, it can serve as a refined night table, a hallway statement with a mirror above, or a living room accent layered with books and a small lamp. Its gentle sheen, quiet floral motif, and authentic surface bring warmth and history to contemporary and traditional settings alike.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
