This large confit pot dates to the late 19th century and is a beautiful testament to the everyday craftsmanship of rural southern France. Once used to preserve duck or goose in fat before refrigeration, its robust form and earthy materials speak to a long tradition of practical, utilitarian pottery. The upper portion is coated in a warm, amber-toned glaze that has developed a network of fine crackling over time that enhances its surface with a delicate, web-like texture. Below, the unglazed base remains raw and matte, bearing traces of age and wear. The twin handles are generously shaped, allowing for easy handling when the pot was in daily use. With its timeworn patina, soft tonal variation, and beautiful imperfections, this confit pot now makes a striking decorative object. It would be lovely styled in a kitchen, entryway, or garden room whether used as a vessel for dried flowers or branches, or left empty to celebrate the sculptural grace of its form.
