This beautiful piece is a large storage jar from Tornac, dating to the 19th century, of generous ovoid form with swelling shoulders, a thick rolled rim, and opposed pulled loop handles. Hand-thrown in terracotta, it was intended for storing foodstuffs such as olives, lard, or confit, and is coated in a deep copper-green glaze with a vibrant, textured surface, pitted and mottled where the glaze has thinned to reveal warm earthen undertones. Its glossy depth shifts between emerald and forest hues, animated by scattered losses, abrasions, and natural patina that attest to its age and utilitarian past.
This beautiful vessel carries both rustic authenticity and sculptural presence. With its bold emerald glaze and timeworn surface, this jar makes a striking accent in both rustic and modern interiors. Display it on a console or kitchen dresser alongside confit pots and other French pottery for a layered, textural look, or use it as a cachepot with a liner to hold dried grasses, olive branches, or a small rosemary plant. Its generous scale also allows it to anchor an entryway or hearth, where its rich green tones bring depth and character.
