An exquisite, large scale ceramic pitcher by Émile Tessier (1870-1950). Wonderfully round with a pinched beak and decorated with masks and coat of arms around the sides, this is a rare find by an iconic ceramist. A lovely piece to use as a water jug for a large dinner party, as a vase or simply display as-is with its sculptural quality. Initialed ET underneath.
Émile Tessier (1870-1950) was a distinguished French ceramicist renowned for his white glazed ceramics, which gained prominence in the early 20th century. Born in Tours, France, Tessier developed a profound interest in ceramics from a young age. He later established his own workshop in Malicorne-sur-Sarthe, a town known for its rich pottery tradition.
Tessier's work is particularly noted for its pristine white glaze, adorned with intricate motifs such as the fleur-de-lis, delicate twists, and simple floral decorations. His extensive range of ceramics included culinary items and decorative pieces.
