This large ceramic pitcher from the Savoy region dates to the late 19th century and is finished in a deep chestnut-brown glaze, enlivened by a decorative band of green and cream dotted motifs, while the interior is glazed in a warm honey yellow. The cylindrical body, sturdy strap handle, and pinched pouring lip speak to its practical farmhouse origins. It bears a stamped mark for a manufacture in Annecy, anchoring the piece firmly within the Savoyard ceramic tradition.
The surface is pleasingly timeworn, with scattered glaze losses at the rim and base, small firing marks, and age-related staining to the interior, all consistent with long use. Such pitchers were common in alpine kitchens, where they were used daily for milk, wine, and water.
Placed on a kitchen dresser or open shelving, it adds color and gentle texture. It also makes a characterful vase for dried branches or garden cuttings, or can be repurposed to hold wooden spoons beside the range. Its generous scale and mellow palette pair beautifully with stoneware, copper, and natural linens, bringing an easy, rustic warmth to both traditional and contemporary interiors.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
