Late 18th to early 19th century provincial writing table in cherrywood, well proportioned, with a rectangular plank top featuring softly rounded edges. The apron is carved with rhythmic fluting on all four sides, allowing the table to stand gracefully in the center of a room as well as against a wall. Four slender turned and gently tapered legs lend the piece a restrained Louis XVI character and help lighten the silhouette. The cherrywood shows a warm honeyed tone with lively grain and a soft sheen developed over time. The plank top bears the honest signs of long use, including scattered scratches, small stains, old worm traces, and natural shrinkage lines between the boards. A few knots and darker patches in the wood add character, while the edges show gentle rounding from years of handling. The feet display light wear and minor scuffs consistent with age, with subtle compression and soft abrasion at the bottoms from contact with the floor, all harmonious with the table’s overall timeworn patina.
Its quiet geometry and warm tones give it a timeless, understated elegance. The mellow wood brings a sense of gentle grace, allowing it to sit naturally within a space.Equally at home in a country house or a contemporary apartment, its balanced proportions and classic simplicity make it an easy and refined piece to place in a variety of interiors.
