A large 19th century French Louis XVI-style mirror in painted wood and stucco, retaining its original beveled plate and delicate traces of gilding. The simple, rectilinear frame is enriched with delicate beaded and foliate detailing, its chalky ivory paint gently worn to reveal warm undertones and subtle glints of gold. The upper corners feature subtly canted angles, adding quiet architectural interest while maintaining clean classical lines. A gently timeworn surface, with scattered paint losses and wear consistent with age, adds to its authentic character. The original beveled glass is only lightly foxed, with a few fine scratches but no clouding, and remains beautifully clear. The backboard has been replaced.
Well proportioned and refined, it offers generous scale without heaviness. Rooted in the restrained neoclassicism of the Louis XVI period, the design favors purity of line and balanced ornament inspired by antiquity. Hand-carved and finished with layered gesso, paint, and gilding, it has developed a soft, luminous patina over time. Elegant above a console, mantel, or in a bedroom, this mirror brings light, texture, and understated history to both traditional and contemporary interiors.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
Note: Mirrors have been photographed facing fabric, a technique that reveals any age spots in the glass. In some cases, this may create the appearance of an empty frame, but each mirror is complete except where explicitly stated.
