A late 19th-century French Alpine mountain table crafted in solid fir and now fitted with a cleaved slate inset top, likely a later adaptation. Petite and low-slung, it reflects honest rural carpentry, with gently splayed legs, visible through-tenon joinery, and thick rails framing the riven stone. The slate reads like a quiet landscape of graphite greys, its edges softened over time, while the timber retains expressive knots, subtle plane marks, and a warm honeyed patina earned through age. It remains in good, weathered condition, with timeworn corners, scattered marks to the wood, and light abrasions and small nicks to the slate consistent with use.
With its architectural lines and rustic, folk character, this table works beautifully as a distinctive coffee table, side table, or end table, pairing effortlessly with linen upholstery, leather seating, and stone or terracotta floors.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
