This grand and increasingly rare late 19th century French shop display case, likely intended for a jeweler or fine goods merchant, is crafted in oak and surmounted by a brass-edged vitrine. The long rectangular display case is divided into two glazed bays with lift-up lids, each lined with mirrored panels to amplify light and enhance visibility of the contents. The front is articulated with recessed paneling above a deep plinth base, giving the piece architectural weight and proportion, while a continuous footrest step runs along the front. The back remains open and fitted with shelves for convenient access. The solid oak top is separate and simply rests in place. The oak has matured to a warm chestnut tone with a soft, service-polished sheen, while the brass framework has mellowed attractively with age. The counter shows honest wear consistent with long commercial use; one of the front glass panes is cracked.
In a home setting, it works beautifully as an island in a dressing room to organize jewelry and accessories, or as a study or library showcase for medals and small curios. In a retail setting, it brings depth and a historic touch, serving beautifully as a boutique display counter for jewelry or small objects. Please note that the vitrine lids no longer lock, as the original keys have been lost.

Condition and patina consistent with age.
