A late 19th-century French round copper terrine and jelly mold with a rich, mellow patina. The domed face is worked in repoussé with a cluster of grapes and two pomegranates on leafy stems, framed by a bold gadrooned border reminiscent of a Charlotte cake. A rolled rim fitted with an iron strap and hanging ring allows for easy wall display. The interior retains traces of its original tin lining. In good, timeworn condition, it shows small dents, light surface scratches, and touches of oxidation and verdigris, all enhancing its antique charm. Such copper molds were an essential feature of Belle Époque kitchens, both in fine restaurants and well-appointed homes, used for setting terrines, gelées, and fruit desserts. Produced in renowned centers such as Villedieu-les-Poêles, each mold was hand-shaped from heavy-gauge copper and lined with tin for safe culinary use. The fruit motif, symbolizing abundance and prosperity, created a graceful presentation when unmolded and continues to captivate as a decorative element.
Beautifully displayed on a kitchen wall or pot rack among other antique molds and copper pieces, it lends warmth, charm, and a touch of authentic French character to any interior.
