A bulbous French terracotta water jar finished in a warm, glossy tobacco glaze with natural mottling. The rounded body rises to a short, ringed neck with a shaped raised spout and a single opposing ear handle, resting on a slightly waisted foot. Likely from southwest France, late 19th to early 20th century, it shows small nicks to the rim and spout, light glaze losses, and wear consistent with age and use.
This traditional form was used for carrying water from the village fountain. Its generous shape makes a charming focal point in a kitchen or garden room, perfect as a vase with a liner, or styled on a shelf or table to showcase its rustic charm.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
