An elegant pair of generously scaled table lamps in glossy white ceramic, likely French and dating to the 1970s. Each lamp has a ginger-jar silhouette, its body wrapped in applied faux-bamboo canes arranged in a raised diamond trellis. The porcelain-like glaze appears crisp and luminous, complemented by simple off-white tapered fabric shades. Condition is very good, with only light surface wear to the glaze, a few small marks on the shades.
Faux bamboo has been a hallmark of Chinoiserie since the 18th century, bridging European taste with East Asian forms. The ginger-jar profile recalls Chinese storage vessels, while the trellis motif evokes garden architecture and the campaign furniture popular in the 19th century. In the 1960s and 1970s, designers revived these influences within Hollywood Regency and Palm Beach interiors, favoring glossy white ceramics that felt both fresh and glamorous.
As a pair, these lamps provide striking symmetry and presence. They can anchor a console in an entryway or living room, flank a sofa on end tables, or bring balance to a bedroom atop nightstands. Their clean white palette suits coastal, modern traditional, and contemporary spaces alike, softening the tones of darker woods while pairing beautifully with rattan, lacquer, or brass. The textured trellis catches ambient light gracefully, making them a quiet yet impactful statement in any interior.
Condition and patina consistent with age. Must be rewired and installed in accordance with local electrical requirements.
