A rare matched pair of large hand-blown tavern glasses dating to the 19th century, each formed in clear glass with tall trumpet-shaped bowls, knopped stems, and broad circular feet. The thick bases are beveled on the interior, creating an optical illusion of a fuller pour, a playful and somewhat deceptive feature historically known as the “owner’s glass" (verre du patron) commonly used in village taverns.
Subtle waviness and tiny seed bubbles throughout the glass catch the light and attest to their hand-blown manufacture and age. The pair remains in very good condition, with gentle surface wear consistent with long use and careful handling.
Striking on a bar cart or sideboard, these glasses bring a note of wit and conversation to serving aperitifs, cordials, or sparkling wine. They also repurpose beautifully as slim bud vases, where the long bowls frame a single stem and the optical base adds sculptural interest. Their clear, weighty profiles suit both pared back contemporary rooms and layered traditional settings, lending clarity, sparkle, and a quietly storied presence.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
