This matched pair of late 19th to early 20th century French apothecary bottles is crafted from clear blown glass with cylindrical forms, flat bases, and painted tin lids in deep blue accented with gilt bands. Each bears an interior paper label, protected by the glass, with gilt panels and bold black lettering. The bottles remain in very good condition, with attractively worn lids, minor surface marks to the glass, and labels showing gentle toning.
Designed for the orderly storage of botanicals and tablets, such bottles were standard in European pharmacies, where Latin labels ensured consistency across regions. Their restrained gilt cartouches and dark enamel accents reflect the sober classicism of the period, while small irregularities in the glass reveal traditional mouth-blown production. Today, they bring vintage charm and refinement to interiors: handsome on a bathroom vanity, elegant in a study, or as characterful storage on a kitchen shelf or dresser.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
