Pair of glazed ceramic mugs by Jacques Pouchain for the Dieulefit Workshop, 1950s. These tall cylindrical tea or coffee mugs feature a delightful, pretty white-grey speckled glaze with loosely defined vertical leaves decorating the outside. Reinvigorate your daily coffee or tea routine with these beautiful French artisan pieces. These would also make a lovely gift. Underneath the mugs, the signature likely reads: "J. Pouchain, Dieulefit".

Artist Information:

At the end of the 1940s, Jacques Pouchain left Paris and interrupts his training as an architect to devote himself to art in the south of France. He settles his ceramic studio in Dieulefit where he creates a personal work, essentially a utilitarian production. His way of applying white enamel on a manganese oxide which enhance an engraved décor is close to anglo-saxon practice from the 1950s. During the 1960s, he addresses abstraction before to develop the femininity and fertility themes during the 1970s. Extract translated from the Alexandre Guillemain Gallery, France.
