An elegant pair of late 19th century French silk embroideries in a petite rectangular format, each depicting a romantic pastoral scene in a refined grisaille palette of silver, charcoal, and ivory. Worked in silk thread on a silk ground, the panels are set within cream-painted reeded wooden frames with biscuit passe-partout and gilt filet, and protected by hand-blown verre soufflé glass showing the pleasing waviness of period glazing.
These intimate scenes follow the fête galante tradition of the 18th century, revived in the later 1800s under Rococo Revival taste and often inspired by the engravings after Watteau, Boucher, and Fragonard.
Ideal as a matched pair over a console, flanking a mirror, or layered within a salon-style wall, these panels bring quiet romance to a bedroom, dressing room, or library. Their neutral tones mix seamlessly with Directoire, Louis XVI, or understated contemporary interiors, adding texture and historical charm without overwhelming the space. Their petite scale invites close viewing, making them well suited to intimate niches and corridor vignettes.
Condition and wear consistent with age and use.
