A refined pair of painted and gilt tôle table lamps from the early 19th century, originally conceived as oil lamps with glass domes supported by pierced galleries, later adapted for electricity while preserving their elegant early structure. Each lamp is formed as a slender column rising from a square plinth, decorated with delicate neoclassical motifs including trophies, anthemion, and stylised foliage in gold over a pale celadon ground. The original tôle galleries retain their gilt laurel friezes and are now fitted with custom striped fabric shades. Condition reflects their age and enhances their period charm, with scattered paint losses, rubbed gilding, minor dents to the tôle, and age spotting throughout.
Their elegant slender proportions make them ideal for a mantel, bedside tables, or flanking a console where symmetry is desired without visual heaviness. The softly faded cream and gilt palette works beautifully with neoclassical, Gustavian, and Federal interiors, while also sitting comfortably within more restrained contemporary spaces.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
