A delightful pair of antique English William and Mary hand-painted octagonal glass top tables dating from the eighteenth century. These tall tables, also known as "torcheres" in French, meaning 'torch lamp' were originally designed to hold a light (more specifically an oil lamp in the 1700s!) One can easily see the design influence of England's Protestant ally, Holland, by the use of hand-painted tulips as decoration throughout.
Note the intricate marquetry details to the top through the use of parcel-gilt ebony, walnut and fruitwood. This elegant geometric pair will seamlessly complement your interior with a touch of symmetry as lamp, plant, or simply drink stands flanking either side of a seating arrangement. Please note light chips to paint as seen in detail photos.
Condition and wear consistent with age and use.
