Dating from the late nineteenth to early twentieth century, this superb petit yellow-ochre cruche features a charming demi-glaze with rich mustard-color drips not dissimilar to drips down a honey jar. Hailing from the region of southwest France, glazed terracotta ewers like these were used for fetching water from the village fountain for domestic use.

This piece would be the perfect addition to an existing collection of pottery or to add a special touch of French to your home. Note the small hole placed through the top of the lid which was once used to serve a practical purpose of allowing one to string rope through and tie around the handle so as not to lose the lid.
