A graceful petite mismatched pair of shell-form dishes, early to mid-20th century, unmarked. Press-molded in white-glazed earthenware, each small dish is nicely proportioned with radiating ribs and a delicate scroll at the hinge, echoing the natural form of a shell with a subtle Rococo influence. The glaze is smooth and glossy throughout.
Condition is good, with faint discoloration to the wells, a few tiny kiln specks, and light surface wear consistent with use.
Subtle variations in both shape and size suggest the two pieces were assembled over time, a charming detail.
A natural addition to a seafood table, perfect for salt, lemon wedges, or condiments, they also work beautifully as soap holders or small catchalls in a coastal home.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
