A fabulous Provençal soup tureen that is inscribed with the old Provençal adage “L’aïgo boulido sauvo la vido tant qu’en mangeara sia pas mort” translating to “Boiled water saves your life; as long as you eat it, you won't die”. Often served as part of a lean Christmas menu. The lid is decorated with fruit and foliage.
It is displayed beautifully in the living room at Chanteduc, the home of Patricia and Walter Wells in Provence. Patricia purchased this attractive piece in the south of France a long time ago and since then it held a special role in her cooking classes and life in Provence. This soupière (in conjunction with another special ochre one) played an integral part during every Monday that she's ever hosted a cooking class at her home in Provence. On this night, they would always make the "soupe au pistou", and the students would fill these lovely tureens to serve the soup at the table. A lovely piece of great scale to add to a collection of culinary pottery.
Light wear.
