Dating from the seventeenth century, this superb, miniature mirror is almost small enough to pop in a pocket. It is rare due to both its size and age and pretty "guilloché" carvings. The back of the frame is pear wood, while the front of the frame is buxus, it even retains the original bronze hook on the back. From the Languedoc-Rousillon region of France. A lovely mirror for a small space or for displaying on open shelves. Note the mirror has been replaced (with antique glass). The "guilloché" technique involves carving intricate, repetitive patterns into the frame's surface.
Contains woodworm - it has been treated and further treatment may be required in the future.
Note: Mirrors have been photographed facing fabric, a technique that reveals any age spots in the glass. In some cases, this may create the appearance of an empty frame, but each mirror is complete except where explicitly stated.
Condition and wear consistent with age and use.
