This pair of 19th‑century French corner armoires is crafted in painted softwood, tall and slender with a petite footprint and canted sides. Each cupboard has a projecting molded cornice, a shaped single door with an arched raised panel, and framed side panels above a deep plinth. The layered paint reads as sage green with pale straw panels, now attractively worn with scattered flaking and losses that reveal earlier coats. Iron hinges and escutcheons are present, the cupboards close with a key, and one lock is a little temperamental. Inside are four fixed shelves, the painted interiors in very good order. A visible crack to one front panel and slight movement in some side panels expose narrow unpainted edges, minor signs of age that do not affect the piece’s stability or charm.
As a pair, these armoires can anchor a dining room by occupying the opposing corners, framing a fireplace or sideboard and offering storage for china and serving pieces. They also suit a living room to display ceramics and books, a kitchen as a pantry, or a bedroom for folded linens, their timeworn surface bringing quiet character to contemporary or traditional schemes.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
