This charming "Le Paysan" seed display, dating from the 1940s/1950s, features a vibrant red patina and a distinct pitched roof design. Made from lithographed metal, the display contains 25 individual compartments, each holding an original seed packet with colorful chromolithography labels depicting various vegetables. These seed sachets, included as photographed, add authenticity and historical charm to this vintage piece. A wonderful example of mid-century French agricultural advertising, this display would have been used in local garden shops or markets to promote seeds for home gardening.
Its bright colors and nostalgic design make it an eye-catching addition to any collection of vintage signage or garden-related memorabilia. The Le Paysan brand was founded in 1854 when André Blain established Les Docks de l'Herboristerie, initially producing bulk seeds. Soon after, Le Paysan was created to sell seeds in sealed paper bags, targeting amateur gardeners. By the mid-20th century, it had become a leading seed supplier in France, dispatching around 180,000 bags of seeds daily. The brand expanded internationally and remains popular among gardeners today
