A late 19th- to early 20th-century Capodimonte porcelain figure, this generously scaled sculpture depicts a luminous white cherub seated among blossoms, a floral garland draped across the lap and a small basket of flowers held gently in hand. The modeling is soft and finely detailed, from the delicately curled hair to the individually formed flower heads, with a sense of gentle Rococo movement carried through the scrolling base. Condition is very good overall, with a discreet loss to one finger and a butterfly wing. The glaze retains a high, decorative gloss that catches the light beautifully and enhances the sculpture’s refined presence.
The underside bears the crowned N Capodimonte mark along with the signature Moreau, confirming its Neapolitan origin. Established in 18th-century Naples under royal patronage, Capodimonte porcelain is celebrated for its sculptural delicacy, refined white glaze, and intricate floral ornamentation, qualities clearly present here, where technical mastery and decorative artistry seamlessly converge.
This figure lends itself beautifully to intimate, gentle settings. Placed in front of a mirror on a bedroom dresser or vanity, its pale surface and flowing lines introduce a soft, romantic note. It is equally well suited to a nursery or child’s room, where the cherubic form and floral detailing feel tender, calm, and timeless.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
