A late 19th century hanging sausage dryer, this cylindrical cage is formed from iron wire mesh with a domed top, metal bands, and a ring finial for suspension. A small latched door opens to reveal four interior hooks for hanging cured meats, while a larger top hook allows the entire piece to hang in a cool pantry, protecting provisions from pests. Extensively restored, it remains timeworn and rustic with visible soldered seams, weathered surfaces, and gentle oxidation that attest to its working life in traditional farmhouse kitchens.
This piece now reads best as sculptural utility, though it remains functional with care. Suspend it from a beam in a kitchen or pantry, set it on a console to frame dried herbs or a still life, or adapt it as a pendant using a simple cord set for a soft industrial note. The airy mesh, domed silhouette, and dark patina lend soulful character and texture, pairing beautifully with stone, marble, and warm woods in rustic farmhouse and country interiors.
Condition and wear consistent with age and use.
