This French ironstone compote in the “Daisy” pattern was produced by the Saint-Amand manufactory in northern France in the late 19th to early 20th century. The shallow dish with gently everted rim is raised on a tall waisted pedestal, the creamy white ground transfer-printed in teal-green with elegant clusters of flowers and leafy sprays, framed by a scrolling border that repeats around the foot. The “Daisy” service is emblematic of the Saint Amand manufactory’s refined production, pairing naturalistic floral decoration with simple, timeless forms. Crafted in ironstone, a material valued for its strength and durability, these wares were both practical and enduring, lending elegance to everyday dining. On this piece, fine overall crazing, gentle toning, and minor rim wear enhance its period character and authentic charm.
This compote brings a quiet French country note to the home, whether used on a dining table or kitchen island as a fruit stand or dessert riser. It displays beautifully on a cupboard or console layered with other white ironstone and glass, adding collected charm, and also serves as an elegant catchall for soaps, brushes, or jewelry in a bath or dressing room. Compotes are also especially popular for table arrangements, their tazza silhouette making a striking centerpiece at weddings or festive tablescapes, where greenery and blossoms spill gracefully between them.
