This heavy French seltzer siphon in rare rose-tinted glass, with its cylindrical body, rounded shoulders, and integral ring foot, dates to the early 20th century and comes from Pont-Saint-Esprit in the Gard, South of France. The pewter head, with curved lever spout, is engraved Bouillard, echoing the faint engraved advertising visible on the glass. The piece presents in good, timeworn condition, with gentle surface abrasions, internal haze from age and use, and a mellow pewter patina that speaks of its working life. No inner tube remains, sold for decoration. Seltzer siphons were essential fixtures of cafés and bistros, used to dispense sparkling water for aperitifs and mixed drinks. While most examples were made in clear or aqua glass, tinted versions in hues such as rose were rarer, adding a distinctive note of color behind the bar. Colored siphons once created a jewel-like effect in Belle Époque and interwar bar interiors, a practical tool doubled as decorative spectacle. Collecting them today allows us to recapture that play of light and color, bringing back a sense of convivial, café-style charm. On a bar cart or open kitchen shelf, this siphon glows with soft blush tones that shift with the light. Grouped with other colored examples, it creates a sculptural arrangement that doubles as functional history and graphic décor.
