A set of three large mid twentieth century planters by Willy Guhl, crafted in fiber cement and distinguished by their architectural presence. Each jardiniere is square in form with gently fluted sides and a thickened rim, the proportions both robust and refined. The surfaces display varied patinas developed over time, ranging from soft stone grey to deeper weathered tones with areas of natural staining and mineral deposits. These differences lend each piece an individual character while underscoring their shared material integrity.
Guhl, a Swiss designer associated with modernist garden design, was known for his innovative use of fibre cement, creating durable outdoor forms that combined sculptural clarity with practical function.
Placed together, the three planters create a rhythmic grouping that anchors a terrace or garden with quiet strength, yet they are equally compelling when distributed individually. Their restrained lines complement both contemporary and traditional settings, whether filled with architectural greenery or colorful blooms. The interplay of differing patinas adds depth and nuance, allowing the set to introduce texture, history, and a sense of enduring design into any garden or terrace setting.
Original mid-century planters by Willy Guhl were made with asbestos - therefore we advise that they are displayed outside or in a well-ventilated room. The patina mustn't be modified.
