An elegant set of twelve table knives by celebrated Parisian silversmith Victor Boivin, brother of renowned jeweller René Boivin, circa 1900. Each combines iridescent mother-of-pearl handles with silver-plated mounts and polished steel blades. The creamy handles shimmer with natural lustre and delicate striations, while the mounts are finely detailed: the ferrules feature scrolling foliage entwined with cornucopia, symbols of abundance, and the domed end caps are chased with mythical animals symmetrically flanking a symbolic tree, evoking themes of vitality and harmony. This sculptural ornament lends the set a jewel-like refinement, marrying decorative richness with utility. Overall, condition is very good, with gentle patina and light surface scratches from use, a few small spots to several blades, and minor rubbing to the plate; the mother-of-pearl handles remain intact and luminous.
Embodying the refinement of Continental formal dining traditions, this set today brings a luminous accent to both elegant and relaxed settings. Use the knives to serve fruit, cheese, or desserts alongside crisp linens and crystal, or pair them with antique sterling for a layered tablescape. When not in service, display them in a crock on a sideboard, where the pearly sheen of the handles and the engraved mounts will catch and reflect the light. 2 sets of 12 available.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
