This small poêlon was made in Vallauris in the late 19th or early 20th century. It is formed in terracotta with a wide, shallow bowl, a tubular handle, and a discreet pouring lip. The interior is finished with a clear glaze over red clay. The exterior is covered in a soft yellow glaze with fluid blue jaspe swirls applied by hand. The surface bears the potter’s signature, incised directly into the clay. The decoration is understated but distinctive, reflecting the artisanal production typical of Vallauris workshops during this period. This small-format piece was used for heating or serving modest portions at the hearth. Its condition is well preserved, with minor surface marks consistent with age and domestic use. A finely proportioned example of rural Provençal pottery, valued today for both its form and its quiet decorative character. Several similar pieces are available for separate purchase.
