This magnificent pair of early 20th-century French wall consoles exudes dramatic allure, uniting the sumptuous depth of black Portoro marble with the graceful artistry of wrought iron scrollwork. The marble tops are richly veined in ocher tones reminiscent of gold, lending the surfaces a sense of opulence and depth. Each console features a thick, stepped top that gives the impression of a double slab, enhancing its sculptural presence. Designed to be fixed directly to the wall, the consoles rest above intricate ferronnerie adorned with volutes and a gilt foliate sunburst, the iron retaining a warm, time-softened patina. One of the marble tops has been expertly restored, with the repair discreetly integrated into the veining so that the faint lines are barely perceptible.
Their elongated, shallow proportions make these consoles ideal for an entrance hall, a gallery, or a dining room wall. They may be displayed side by side as a grand pair or positioned on opposite walls to create elegant symmetry and visual balance within a space. The rich black marble and subtle gilded accents harmonize beautifully with neoclassical furnishings, Art Deco elements, and richly toned walls. Perfect for anchoring a corridor vignette with a pair of lamps or framing a fireplace, doorway, or mirror, they bring both refinement and architectural poise to any interior.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
