This French sculptural table lamp by Maison Chaumette, from the 1970s, is modeled in terracotta and marked under the base. The body takes the form of a piled coupe of exotic fruits and foliage, rendered in a chalky off-white with hand-incised detail. This abundant cluster rests on a rounded basket base worked in trompe-l’œil (illusionistic) wicker, finished in a darker umber tone that suggests aged cane. The lamp is topped with a large, tapered square fabric shade in pale taupe, giving the piece a striking and generous presence.
Maison Chaumette was known in the mid-20th century for sculptural lighting and decorative objects that often blurred the line between functional design and expressive art. Their production is distinguished by a refined craftsmanship and a sensitivity to natural forms, qualities clearly expressed in this lamp.
Perfect for a holiday house or coastal retreat, this lamp brings relaxed charm and natural texture to any setting. Its neutral palette pairs easily with limestone, limewash, rattan, and woven accents, making it ideal for an entry console, dining sideboard, or sun-filled garden room.
