This mid-20th-century advertising barometer for Chocolat Révillon, circa 1950, is shaped and colored to evoke a cocoa bean. The elongated plaque is painted wood in deep burgundy with gilt block lettering and two small cocoa pod emblems. At the center sits a circular aneroid barometer with a brass bezel and glazed dial, now non-functional. The surface shows a worn patina with abrasions, edge scuffs, small paint losses, and a larger flake at the top that add to its vintage charm.
Advertising pieces of this type were supplied to cafés and grocery shops to keep a brand visible at the counter. Compact aneroid barometers remained popular through the mid-20th century for such displays, combining utility with a decorative presence. Révillon, a long-established chocolatier best known for festive papillotes and assorted confections, enjoyed wide popularity in France during this period, and branded items like this helped reinforce its place as a household name.
This item brings warmth and character to a kitchen, pantry, or breakfast nook, its dark burgundy and gilt tones pairing well with copper cookware and glazed ceramics. It also suits a home bar or dining area styled with other mid-century signs, or a study where it reads as a nostalgic fragment of commercial history, valued now as a decorative rather than functional barometer.
