This adorable life-size garden cat dates from the late twentieth century and is made from reconstituted stone, for decades it has watched over the basse cour at Chanteduc (home to Patricia and Walter Wells). In the past, farmers had kept chicken in the lower courtyard and raised rabbits in a nearby enclosure, so the Wells decided to adopt this lovely cat to inhabit the same area where the other feathered and furry creatures had lived.
Patricia loves the story behind these types of sculptures - after WWII, when many people lost their beloved pets, replicas were made to provide comfort.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
