A luxury summer vacation in Provence
La Garance en Provence is a superb farmhouse in Le Thor - in the heart of Provence. The location is perfect, just half an hours drive from Avignon.
Once you turn off the quiet country road and pass through the gates of this spectacular property you pass the three cypresses the driveway bends and voilà, you have your first glimpse of this magnificent 17th century Farmhouse.
The air is sweet and a feeling of anticipation makes your heart skip a beat. This is going to be a fabulous holiday.
The expansive estate boasts a 23ft glimmering swimming pool surrounded by open lush lawns with plenty of shady spots to cool off. Two lofty platanes (sycamore trees) sit gracefully by the farmhouse and are a lovely reminder of the stunning avenues which beckon you to explore the nearby villages.
The smiling faces of Chantal and Regis welcome you at the red door (they speak English so you will benefit from their local knowledge). And you are here – five immaculate bedrooms with en-suites, all sun-drenched and with views through the trees across the prairie to the Castle of Thouzon.
Choosing a bedroom is a challenge in itself as they are all divine and beautifully decorated. All of the sheets are French linen and the spacious bathrooms are equipped with all the essentials.
Original fireplaces are the heart of each salon -the perfect place to unwind with loved ones over a glass of Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
The kitchen is warm and inviting. An enormous farmhouse table sits in the sun drenched room with views through the lavender to the swimming pool.
Cooking lessons can be arranged with a chef in this dream kitchen. If you would rather do something a little more relaxing, beauty treatments and massages are available.
The building itself was formally a postal relay station. During the restoration, the plastered ceilings were peeled back to reveal weighty beams and the scent of pine escaped.
Every detail of this property has been thoughtfully considered and you will leave wishing you could stay for much longer, living this idyllic life, perhaps long enough to see the next season arrive…
