This exceptional storage chest dates from the late seventeenth-century and is of Italian origin. Note the pretty carving around the edges of the panels, the turned corners and boule feet. The iron hardware and key plate are original but there is no key. There is a jewelry box inside. The drop handles on either end were for transporting the trunk - particularly if one had to flee during wartime. The feet have been replaced.
Condition and wear consistent with age and use.
