Dating from the eighteenth century, a beautiful brown glazed terracotta walnut oil pot with two handles and a spout from the Auvergne region of France. This lovely pot bears its original glazed patina with some black speckling. Note its ribbed form and hand-pressed doigtier rim around the top of the neck defined by pressing fingers into the soft clay.
A delightful piece of pottery to add to a collection or serve as an individual conversation piece. A wonderful find in this condition where the nozzle is not chipped. Auvergne is a historical region in central France, and is now part of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.
Condition and wear consistent with age and use.
