An elegant Italian Baroque walnut two-seat banquette dating from the 18th century. The sculptural silhouette is defined by a distinctive double-arched back, padded scroll arms, and a serpentine scalloped apron beneath a loose, removable seat cushion. It stands on finely turned baluster legs terminating in carved scroll feet and joined by elegant double X-form stretchers. Recently reupholstered in a Pierre Frey damask in rich raspberry red with antique gold foliage, the banquette is presented in excellent condition. The upholstery is crisp and ready for use, while the removable seat cushion offers added practicality. The walnut frame retains a warm, timeworn patina with light rubbing and minor nicks consistent with age.
The bold curves and distinctive double X-form stretchers capture the sculptural drama of Italian Baroque design. Reupholstered in vibrant Pierre Frey damask, the banquette feels equally at home in contemporary and period interiors, where its generous proportions and expressive silhouette make it a natural focal point at the foot of a bed, in an entrance hall, or as occasional seating in a living room.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
