Dating from the eighteenth century, France, a stunning hand-beveled mercury mirror with black leather and repoussé zinc accents. The wood frame is decorated with repoussé zinc flowers and motifs at the curved cornice and around the frame which have aged with a slightly verdigris patina. The curved wood frame also features black leather pieces between the hammered zinc decorations. A truly unique piece destined to make an impact in an entryway or living space.

Condition and wear consistent with age and use.
Note: Mirrors have been photographed facing fabric, a technique that reveals any age spots in the glass. In some cases, this may create the appearance of an empty frame, but each mirror is complete except where explicitly stated.

This mirror contains its original mercury glass which sparkles beautifully in the light. The technique of making mercury glass mirrors was retired in the early 1900s. The mercury is fixed behind the glass in a solidified, non-harmful state.
