18th-Century Walnut Bow-Front Commode w/ Three Drawers - 37" x 51¼"

This elegant 18th-century walnut commode has a gently bowed front fitted with three full-width drawers, paneled sides and a softly shaped apron raised on slender curved feet. The design is restrained and beautifully proportioned, allowing the warm grain and mellow patina of the walnut to take center stage. The brass handles are later replacements, while the drawer interiors remain clean and retain charming traces of an old patterned paper lining. The drawers run smoothly and are easy to use.

The commode is in good antique condition, with gentle knocks, rubbing, historic wormholes and an earlier restoration to the upper right corner of the top drawer front, all contributing to its mellow, gently timeworn character. A key is present, although the locks are somewhat temperamental and would benefit from servicing if regular locking is required. 

With its sober lines and gently curved silhouette, the commode has an understated French country elegance that makes it particularly versatile.
