This striking plaster torso of a Venus, set on an antique-style column pedestal, dates from the 1920s yet evokes the timeless beauty of classical antiquity. The figure, shaped with a gentle contrapposto and a quiet sensuality, recalls ancient Venus statues admired for their balanced proportions and serene presence. Its fragmentary state, with the head and limbs intentionally absent, mirrors the appearance of many surviving marble antiquities, where losses over time have added to their poetic charm. The effect is enhanced by the sculpture’s ivory-toned plaster surface, carefully finished to capture the softness and glow of aged marble, and showing light wear and speckling appropriate to its age. The accompanying column pedestal, fluted and topped by an Ionic capital, is integral to the composition, raising the figure to an elegant viewing height and reinforcing the classical lineage the piece pays homage to. Together, the torso and pedestal present a harmonious study in classical form, proportion, and restraint. Ideal for a library, dressing room, stair landing, or well-appointed bathroom, this Venus torso brings a serene yet subtly sensual note to the room.  At once dramatic and scholarly, it strikes a balance between bold decorative impact and the quiet erudition of an antique cast.
