A superb and weighty letterbox from the 1930's used in Sisteron and Gap in the Haute Alpes in France. Made from cast iron and metal, retains original key plus a spare and the lock functions. There are three wax seal stamps with some original wax plus a stamp punch. There is some documentation that explains how this box was used by the postman in rural areas, it was attached to a wagon to receive mail. Labelled ISTERON (the S for SISTERON has worn off). Branded Picard Sauerbach & Cie Paris.
