Handsome and practical, this 1930s French shop oak cabinet features a bank of sixteen drawers, finished in a warm nut-brown tone with a gently rubbed top. The rectangular case stands on a plain plinth, with framed and recessed side panels and a lightly molded edge to the top. The drawers are fitted with later metal cup pulls that replaced the original hardware, creating a well-balanced, utilitarian rhythm across the façade. The top is slightly uneven with a few old stains, and the surface shows scuffs, knocks, minor veneer losses, and oxidation to the pulls, all attesting to its utilitarian past and authentic, timeworn character.
This piece brings authentic workshop character to interiors. Use it as a low sideboard in a dining room for linens and flatware, as a console in an entry for keys and mail, or as practical storage in a studio for tools and samples. The array of small drawers keeps everyday objects neatly organized and close at hand, while the top welcomes a table lamp, a stack of art books, or a bowl of fruit.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
