A substantial seated female figure in terracotta, 1940s, originating from the workshop of Georges Van Raemdonck (1888–1966) and unsigned. Possibly the work of another artist associated with or working near the atelier. Van Raemdonck was a Belgian painter and illustrator, widely known for his graphic work and political illustrations.

Hand modeled in coarse clay, the figure is rendered in simplified, modernist planes with a serene frontal gaze and relaxed limbs. The surface carries a warm palette of russet and umber with darker firing variations and visible tool marks that animate the form. Seams and construction joins remain visible along the shoulders and legs, suggesting the figure was built up in sections, possibly over a now-disappeared internal armature, as one might construct a preparatory study intended for translation into stone. These visible lines may also reflect old repairs, further reinforcing the sculpture’s tactile, handmade character. A timeworn patina, with small chips and losses to the toes and fingers, does not detract from the overall presence, which remains calm and grounded, carrying quiet sculptural gravity.

Placed on a plinth in an entry, library, or garden room, she anchors a space with earthen warmth and contemplative stillness. In a spacious bathroom, the theme of the nymph or bather feels especially timeless and poetic. Set against stone, plaster, or marble, her natural tones and richly textured surface create a beautiful contrast, bringing depth, warmth, and a quietly sensual presence to both contemporary and traditional interiors.
