This beautiful table lamp from the 1950s features a baluster-shaped porcelain body with faceted panels, hand-painted with exotic birds perched amid blossoming branches in vivid hues against a crisp white ground. Gilt accents on the base and collar further enhance its refined look. The lamp is mounted on a cast gilt-bronze foot and paired with a warm sand-toned pleated fabric shade. It is marked under the base.
The Porcelaine de Paris workshops, active in various forms since the late 18th century, are renowned for their refined hard-paste porcelain and painterly decoration. The avian motif reflects the influence of 18th-century chinoiserie, revived during the Hollywood Regency era to bring a touch of glamour and relaxed sophistication to interiors.
This lamp adds color and quiet elegance to a living room console, a library end table, or an entryway, where the hand-painted birds can be admired up close. It pairs beautifully with painted furniture, mirrored surfaces, or chinoiserie panels, and introduces a fresh accent to neutral schemes.
Condition and patina consistent with age. Must be rewired and installed in accordance with local electrical requirements.
