This French gilt-metal sunburst wall mirror from the 1960s features carefully hand-cut rays, some long and slender with pointed tips and others shorter and wider with flared ends. Each ray has been hand-hammered and shaped from metal, giving the frame an artisanal texture and a sense of movement. The contrast between the sharp, tapering rays and the flared, sculptural ones creates a dynamic rhythm and energy. The gilded finish has aged to a warm golden color with darker patina, while the glass shows soft foxing that adds to the decorative, antique character of the piece.
Sunburst mirrors became very popular in mid-20th-century French homes, inspired by the grandeur of Louis XIV but made in lighter, modern materials. This example keeps that sense of drama and elegance, with its glowing rays and sculptural form.
This mirror brings warmth and style to any room. Hang it in an entry above a console, over a mantel, or in a bedroom as a glowing focal point. It pairs well with paintings, other gilt frames, or modern furniture, and its aged gold surface catches the light beautifully in both classic and casual interiors.
